Obituary of Silas Eugene Winn

SILAS EUGENE “GENE” WINN Silas E. “Gene” Winn, 77, Hallsville, MO passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 26, 1944, in Greentop, MO the son of the late Silas Lee Oren Winn and Jewel Alberta (Anders) Winn. On October 24, 1987, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann (Miller) Cayou. In addition to his wife Barbara of 34 years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Justin Winn of Portland, OR, John and Erica Cayou of Hallsville, MO, Daniel and Jessica Cayou of Jefferson City, MO and Jacob Cayou of Portland, OR; Gene’s grandchildren Elisabeth Cayou, Benjamin Cayou, Grant Cayou, Beatrice Cayou and Theodore Cayou; his sisters-in-law Sharon Winn of Kansas City, MO, Barbara Winn of Jefferson City, MO, Diana Miller of Columbia, MO and Betty June and Larry Harvey of Macon, MO; his brothers-in-law Mark and Sherri Miller of Macon, MO and William Miller of Kansas City, MO; his mother-in-law Katherine Miller of Macon, MO; his aunt Laureen Anders of Fountain, CO; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, his siblings Virginia (Lowell) Gray, Nadine (Lee) Chancellor, Albert (Druzella) Winn, Charles Winn, Lonnie Winn and Marjorie (Sam) McFarland; his father-in-law James A. Miller and his brother-in-law James “Mike” Miller preceded him in death. Gene served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam era. He worked for Benton Homes, Inc., for many years before leaving to work for the State of Missouri, Public Service Commission, from which he retired in 2009. After his retirement, he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car for several more years. He enjoyed working in his “playhouse” building whirly gigs and other projects out of wood and especially gifts for his grandkids. He enjoyed working in the yard, especially mowing. Grass did not dare to grow too much in his lawn. Gene liked hunting, fishing, and gardening and was a member of the Coffee Shop Gun Club. He also liked making his deer jerky and giving it away. He really liked going to their place up north and just spending time. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO. Interment with Military Honors will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO.
