Obituary of Red Furlong

WALTER G. “RED” FURLONG Walter G. “Red” Furlong, 61, Sturgeon, MO passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 23, 1962, in Fulton, MO the son of the late Walter and Mary Lou (Love) Furlong. On October 25, 1980, he was united in marriage to Karen (Griffith) Furlong. In addition to his wife Karen of 43 years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one daughter April Nicole Swartz and her husband Tyler of Sturgeon, MO; one brother Donald “Rusty” Furlong and his wife Connie; four sisters Jackie Smith, Mary Creason, Wilma Smith and Zelda White; two grandchildren Cooper and Ava; his best friend Henry Gingerich; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, four brothers Stephen Furlong, James Furlong, Edward Furlong and William Furlong and two sisters Betty Furlong and Carla Morgan preceded him in death. Red worked in the construction business for many years and later as a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, dogs, all types of animals and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:30 pm Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon, MO. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Sturgeon, MO.
