Obituary of Mary E. Morehead

MARY ELIZABETH “LIBBY” MOREHEAD Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Morehead, 87, Centralia, MO passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024. She was born April 30, 1936, in Paris, MO the daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred (Turnbough) Baker. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons Mike Morehead of the Florida Keys and Jeff Morehead and his wife Lura Briscoe of Steamboat Springs, CO; one daughter Michelle Gibler and her husband Nelson of Centralia, MO; two grandchildren Brice Gibler and his wife Becca Holley, and Paige Clark and her husband Gavin; three great-grandchildren Gage, Elliott and Boone; several nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, two dear sisters Judy Kay Barklage and Jo Anne Mutersbaugh preceded her in death. Libby started her teaching career at Bryan School, the same one-room rural school she had attended for eight years as a student in Paris, MO. Soon after, she married her high school sweetheart, “Sonny” Morehead, and they relocated to the Chicago area to teach and raise their family. After separation, Libby returned to the area to teach in Moberly, Centralia, and Paris. She enjoyed photography, sewing, and reading. Libby was a passionate geocacher, where she located over 3,000 caches nationwide. She was a gifted life-long learner who loved exploring and adopted cutting-edge technology with vigor. “Liberated Libby” was truly a woman before her time.
