Obituary of John Owen

JOHN A. OWEN John A. Owen, 91, Centralia, MO passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 10, 1929 the son of the late Guy and Verda Owen. On October 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Wanda LaVern Gayler-Owen. In addition to his wife Wanda of 68 years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two daughters Dr. Nellie Kathleen Owen, DVM of Centralia, MO and Virginia Ann (Ginger) Owen of Columbia, MO; several grandchildren; one great grandchild John Ichigo Owen; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to parents, one sister, Betty Lou Engstrom, grandfather, Alfred W Owen, former Sheriff of Greene County, MO; grandmother, Nellie A Owen, cousin, Mickey Owen, professional baseball player and former Sheriff of Greene County, MO, Guy Owen and a granddaughter Anna Maria Owen preceded him in death. John served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a water well driller and owned the John Owen Drilling Company for many years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and cattleman. He owned and raised horses and enjoyed planting trees and gardening. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Patterson Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Be The Change, c/o Oliver Funeral Home, P.O.
