Obituary of Frederick Minor

FREDERICK L. MINOR Frederick Lee Minor, 94, Columbia, MO died peacefully at home Friday, April 9, 2021 at Solstice Senior Living in Columbia, MO. He was born October 5, 1926 in Moberly, MO the only child of Hubert and Lola (Davis) Minor and was raised in Mexico, MO. Fred married Mary E. Kanatzar on October 9, 1947 and they enjoyed 73 years together, always putting each other first. He was a proud WWII veteran and often bragged that the handsome young soldier with the blue eyes in his military picture was the reason Mary said yes when he proposed. They raised their son, Gary (Anita) Minor and daughter, Debbie (Jay) Self in Sturgeon and resided there for 48 years. Fred and Mary were life-long members of the Sturgeon Christian Church and witnessed five generations of baptisms, weddings, baby dedications, family reunions, church services, cherished pastors and saying good-bye to generations of family and friends. After retirement, they traveled, camped and fished for trout. Fred always urged his entire family to “travel now, when you are well enough to enjoy it.” He especially enjoyed their trip to Alaska. Fred’s legacy includes five generations, consisting of 4 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren with two more that will be born this year, a special sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many dear friends. He cherished family gatherings and was a vivid story-teller of his family history. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Sturgeon Christian Church in Sturgeon, MO. Interment will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon, MO. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Sturgeon Christian Church in Sturgeon, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sturgeon Christian Church, c/o Oliver Funeral Home, P.O. Box 125, Centralia, MO 65240.
